Four historic buildings preserving Hollis's heritage
The Wheeler House
The Wheeler House serves as headquarters for the Hollis Historical Society. The building contains five rooms of exhibits showcasing period furnishings, antique tools, textiles, photographs, and documents spanning Hollis's history from colonial times through the 20th century. Outside, visitors enjoy the beautiful Lucie Beebe Memorial Garden.
The Wheeler House is open Mondays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. For visits at other times, please call ahead.
Always Ready Engine House
Built in 1859, the Always Ready Engine House is one of the most distinctive buildings in Hollis. Named for the fire company that built it during the Civil War era, the building has served many functions over the years. Today it houses fascinating exhibits including the original "Defender" hand-pump fire engine, a horse-drawn hearse, the town lockup cell, and Civil War memorabilia.
